ACCRA — Ghanaian conglomerate Jospong Group of Companies and its subsidiary, the African Agribusiness Consortium (AAC), have welcomed back 118 post-graduate scholars from Russia as part of a targeted corporate initiative to address critical skills gaps in West Africa’s agricultural and environmental sectors.
The group of returnees arrived at Accra International Airport following two years of specialized graduate studies at Moscow’s People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University). The fully funded corporate scholarship program focused on core disciplines including sustainable agriculture, waste management, climate project management, and environmental science.
The human capital investment marks an expansion by Jospong traditionally dominant in waste management and sanitation into large-scale agricultural modernization and carbon management across Ghana.
“After several years of contributing significantly to Ghana in sanitation and waste management transformation, the Jospong Group made another bold decision a few years ago to support the transformation of Ghana’s agricultural sector,” said Dr. Mrs. Adelaide Araba Siaw Agyepong, Chief Executive Officer of the African Agribusiness Consortium and Executive Director of the Jospong Group. “Transforming the sector would require the active participation of a new generation of skilled and passionate young people.”
The scholars will be integrated into corporate and national projects targeting food security, rural development, emissions calculations, and climate-smart agriculture.
The technical deployment aims to directly target industrial decarbonization and climate tracking within West Africa’s expanding commercial supply chains.
“We have built skills in climate project management, and we will use our skills to contribute to climate emissions initiatives for both the Jospong Group and the country,” said Saviour Kweku Dotsey, President of the Jospong Scholars RUDN Group.
Another graduate, Charlotte Opoku Gyamfua, who specialized in transportation decarbonization, noted that her focus will center on managing carbon emissions and improving climate-related data collection across Ghana’s transport networks.
The educational initiative was executed in partnership with RUDN University, Ghana’s Embassy in Moscow, and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Jospong views the strategy as a core component of its long-term plan to position local technical talent at the center of regional economic development.
