HO, Ghana — Ghana’s Ho Municipal Assembly and the High Commission of Namibia are exploring cross-border municipal partnerships across agriculture, waste management, and trade to deepen South-South economic links.

The bilateral initiative follows a official familiarization visit by Namibian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, to the agrarian hub in Ghana’s Volta Region on Monday. The talks aimed at structuring direct public-private sector ties between Ho and a peer city in Namibia.

Ho Municipal Chief Executive Stephen Adom noted that the local assembly is pitching land access and institutional backing to attract Namibian agribusinesses and livestock investors.

“The proposed collaboration should focus on sharing knowledge, expertise and resources rather than merely seeking financial assistance,” Adom said. Highlighting Ho’s commercial potential in livestock value chains, he added that the municipality is ready to execute “reciprocal visits involving municipal officials, farmers, businesses and other stakeholders” while facilitating land acquisition for foreign ventures.

The discussions also targeted municipal waste management and environmental sanitation as primary commercial opportunities. Ho, marketed nationally as the “Oxygen City of Ghana,” is positioning its green reputation to attract capital for waste-to-value initiatives.

“Waste should not only be removed from communities but transformed into an economic resource capable of creating jobs and generating income,” High Commissioner Nghituwamata said.

Nghituwamata stressed that the diplomatic effort seeks to leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework to move past symbolic diplomacy into commercial delivery.

“The ultimate objective is to move beyond diplomatic agreements to the implementation of tangible projects that would deliver measurable benefits to both sides,” Nghituwamata added, noting that direct city-to-city links offer a fast-track mechanism for intra-African trade and investment.

Technical teams from the Ho Municipal Assembly and the Namibian High Commission are set to hold follow-up sessions to finalize a peer municipality in Namibia and draft targeted investment frameworks.
