Ghana’s Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC) is spearheading a major push to transform the region into a leading agro-industrial hub. The 2025 Eastern Commodity Satellite Market Fair (ECSMF), a key initiative launched in partnership with the Regional and District Departments of Agriculture, is central to this strategy.
The fifth edition of the fair, themed “Shaping the Future of Agricultural Industrialisation Through Strategic Investment,” is scheduled to run from September 1 to September 5, 2025. The event aims to create a direct link between farmers and key stakeholders, including buyers, processors, exporters, and investors.
Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey described the fair as a “transformative tool” to attract the strategic investment needed for agro-processing infrastructure. She highlighted the initiative’s alignment with the government’s Feed Ghana program, which seeks to boost agricultural productivity through better seeds, fertilizers, and sustainable farming methods.
Value addition and agricultural modernization are critical to establishing new agro-processing zones and factories, which are expected to create jobs and stimulate economic growth. The ERCC has committed to supporting agribusiness development through strategic policy implementation, improved rural infrastructure, and fostering inclusive value chain participation.
Hajia Habiba Yusif, the Eastern Regional Director of Agriculture, emphasized that the ECSMF reflects a strong commitment to agricultural transformation and rural economic empowerment. “This fair reflects our shared goal of building resilient market linkages and driving agro-industrialization,” she stated.
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has also thrown its support behind the initiative. Ms. Anita Owusu-Kuffour, the FDA’s Eastern Regional Head, noted that the fair aligns with the national vision of transforming agriculture through quality assurance and market regulation. She announced the launch of the “Buy Ghana, Love Ghana” campaign, designed to promote locally-made products and support the national economy by encouraging Ghanaians to prioritize domestic goods.
The fair has garnered support from several key partners, including Joy Industries Limited, Joy Daddy Multimedia, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and the Ghana Enterprise Agency, underscoring a collaborative effort to strengthen the region’s agricultural value chain. The 2025 ECSMF is poised to be a landmark event in advancing agribusiness and positioning the Eastern Region as a national model for agricultural industrialization.
