President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a temporary suspension of raw shea nut exports, a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s agro-industrial sector and increasing value addition.

The directive, announced on 26 August 2025 by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, takes immediate effect. Kyari said the policy is designed to encourage local processing, create jobs, and ensure Nigeria derives greater economic benefits from its agricultural resources.

He noted that the measure aligns with regional practices, as neighbouring countries such as Ghana and Burkina Faso have adopted similar restrictions to stimulate domestic industries and boost foreign exchange earnings from processed shea products.
