Senegal has launched a nationwide campaign to vaccinate its livestock population for the 2024-2025 season. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock, aims to bolster the country’s livestock sector, a vital contributor to its economy and food security.

The campaign was officially launched in Dahra Djolof, a key livestock hub in north-central Senegal. Minister Mabouba Diagne emphasized the significance of the livestock sector, highlighting its role in providing livelihoods for millions of Senegalese families.

Diagne praised the progress made in recent years in combating animal diseases, particularly through a government-funded animal health program. He stressed the crucial role of vaccination in protecting livestock against priority diseases.

The minister also noted the increasing involvement of private veterinarians in the vaccination campaign, which has expanded coverage and improved access to animal health services. He called on all stakeholders, including local authorities and livestock farmers, to collaborate and ensure the success of the campaign.
